Troy Named OHIO BEST HOMETOWN For 2009

The editors of Ohio Magazine named Troy one of Ohio's Best Hometowns for 2009. Troy will be featured in the cover story of the November 2008 issue of Ohio Magazine and on Ohio News Network (ONN). Troy was selected as the Ohio's Best Hometown in the Southwestern Region of Ohio. Four other cities along with Troy will also receive the award for 2009.

Every town and city was considered for this prestigious award. Cities were nominated through various sources and editors of Ohio Magazine. Troy's nomination committee consisted of Mayor Michael Beamish, Mayor-City of Troy; Stan Kegley, Asst. Public Works Director-City of Troy; Kay Hamilton, Assistant Director-Miami County CVB;  Tom Dunn, Superintendent-Troy City Schools; Linda Lee Jolly, Director-Hayner Cultural Center; and Chuck Fox, Executive Director-Troy Main Street.

Troy was selected as the best Hometown in the Southwest Region. Troy competed against all cities and towns located in Adams, Brown, Butler, Champaign, Clark, Clermont, Clinton, Darke, Fayette, Greene, Hamilton, Highland, Miami, Montgomery, Preble, and Warren counties. The competition was narrowed to several finalists. Judges visited each finalist before making a decision. Cities were judged on Community Spirit, Education, Entertainment, Health and Safety, Business Environment and Cultural and Heritage.

"This is exciting news for all citizens of Troy! What makes this even more special is this comes from an organization that visits and reviews many communities around Ohio. To be named one of the five Ohio's Best Hometowns, and the top town chosen from this region, supports our Troy motto, "Civic Pride is City Wide". This is a compliment to the many partnerships we have that work together, for the good of this community.  Troy, Ohio USA is a great place to live, work, play, and raise a family!!" stated Mayor Mike Beamish.

"Your achievement is especially impressive in light of the fact that Ohio is home to many of the best hometowns in America. Only one town is chosen from each of the state's five regions for this very special honor. This award recognizes Troy is among the best of the best," wrote Richard Osborne, Publisher and Editor of Ohio Magazine.
