The Art
The Sculptures on the Square exhibition has been led by a dedicated group of community minded individuals seeking to continue bringing public art to the streets of downtown Troy. When we think about Troy, we reflect upon all the wonderful things that make Troy special to us. Troy is a city rich in history, arts, culture, and community.
Our desire is to create an exhibition that allows Troy to share those treasures to those in our community, our region, and the world, thus we are 'Opening Doors to Troy'. The exhibit will feature a variety of doors (new, old, recycled/refurbished, wood, steel, glass, large, and small) to be creatively decorated by local artists, schools, organizations, and/or businesses.
The Exhibit
An Opening Gala for sponsors, artists, and key stakeholders in the community is scheduled for Saturday, May 7th, 2011 at the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The exhibit will begin with a public opening on Sunday, May 8th. Doors will be strategically located along the sidewalks of the Public Square, Main Street, and Market Street within 3 blocks of the fountain. The placement of the doors will be such that people will be encouraged to walk around downtown to not only view the 'doors' but to also discover the charm of our community found in its history, architecture, entertainment, dining and shopping experiences.
